Father of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, as of old we march through our own desert. Our desert of discrimination, poverty, ill health and place to belong. Hear our cry and release us from the bondage that keep us in this cycle of tears. Tears shed over 400 ago years when we were sold into slavery. Tears when no matter how brutal our surroundings we were sold again and lost what was familiar. Tears of losing sons and husband to lynching - strange fruit hanging on the tree - or the electric chair. Tears of losing sons and daughters to police shooting. Slavery ended, yet we march in the desert still enslaved by poverty, ill health and abuse by those in authority. Lord how long before you hear our cries? Still we march forward in hope, courage and understanding that the God of our fathers Abraham Isaac and Jacob promises us better days ahead.
We wait patiently for your answers because we remember your promises to our ancestors. A promise to be with us and deliver us. Jeremiah 1:19. Lord you also said, " For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, ... plans for your welfare, not for woe! plans to give you a future full of hope. when you call me, when you go to pray to me, I will listen to you. When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with your whole heart, you will find me with you ..., and I will change your lot." Jeremiah 29:11-14.
And so we march on in hope, courage and perseverance, because of your promise in Joel 2:25, " I will repay you for the years which the locust has eaten."
Thank You Lord, for always standing at our sides guiding us in our deepest despair. We march on because of your promises to us and to our ancestors. Give us courage, understanding and most of wisdom to know the battle is not ours but Yours. We pray this in Your Son Jesus' name Amen!
