My "Advent Moments"
in The Prophet Isaiah in Advent
As I reflect and remember about Advent this past year, I can't help but remember there was a cloud of sadness surrounding me. My mother died on November 15th and I struggled with realizing the "coming of Christ" as a newborn. She wasn't here to celebrate with us and it was all a blur. But thinkin

Advent review Week 1
in Advent Encounter
Last night we engaged in a powerful reflection on God's ways of how we sense his presence in our lives. Some people said that they felt God revealing his "glory," through dreams, thunder, hugs, silent voices, wisdom, and more. But what inspired me was how one student talked about a profoundly intima

LIMITS ON CONFIRMATION
in Online Study: The Book of Job
When all is said and done in going back and forth, you need to find your mountain top. This is where you sit or stand quietly and immerse yourself in God’s wonder; acknowledging your dependence on God because He has the plan and you are the instrument to help execute that plan. My #7 is acknowledgi

Limits on Confirmation
in Online Study: The Book of Job
My #7 would be....Admit when you don't know the answer or even how to help. Another #7 would be...You don't know everything about everything but are willing to listen/learn.😊

Not why but when
in Online Study: The Book of Job
Highlights from the past few weeks When I first heard of the book by Rabbi Harold Kushner that deals with the issue of suffering, I thought the title was "WHY bad things happen to good people" but I learned that the title is actually "WHEN bad things happen to good people." So I do not ask God why.

The Third Week of Job Review
in Online Study: The Book of Job
Well done, my good and faithful servant. Reading assignment: Job 29, 32, 33, 38! We are at the halfway point of our study on the Book of Job. For the last three weeks, we talked about so many issues. To try and summarize our study would be an impossible task. Therefore, I am asking each studen

Be Still
in Online Study: The Book of Job
One of the difficulties in my walk with the Lord is knowing when He is speaking to me. I pray (ask) for insight, and health matters, and family and friends, and all those things we customarily do. I pray (ask) for insight to help me through matters. But how do I know when the Lord is trying to gi

Difficulties and Help with Ministry
in Online Study: The Book of Job
The main difficulty in ministry is offering not what Job's three friends do, which is "ashy maxims," but rather really listening and facilitating honest conversations. Some thing I learned from Michael Howard is the importance of beginning with a close reading of Scripture and then facilitating a di

What constitutes my best day?
in Online Study: The Book of Job
My best day is when I visit(s) my fellow shut-in parishioners at their homes. Bring them the Eucharist, and consoling them during their times of grief or disappointments.

Week 1: Season of Remembrance
in The Prophet Isaiah in Advent
Please share what you remember about Advent this past year when Christ entered your life like a newborn baby. Of course, I know Christ is in us daily. But, there are some moments when Christ manifested the Glory of the Lord so that you could get a job, experience healing, or a word to keep on fighti

Advent review Week 2
in Advent Encounter
Wow, last night's session truly opened our spiritual eyes to see that God wants us to disrobe ourselves from mourning and misery, which are distractions in our lives. If darkness covers our footsteps, we cannot help others walk into the light. The song said, "Order our steps," but if darkness covers

Week 1 Advent Encounter Video
in Advent Encounter
Well done, Evangelist!!! I, too, want Jesus to walk with me. I want Jesus to help me focus when I am distracted with day-to-day living activities. So I decided to go to church! During these 27 days of Advent, I will go in the church and find my seat and sit down! And be woke! I look forward t

The Fifth week of Job Review
in Online Study: The Book of Job
Reading assignment: Job 41-42, Our class on Tuesday night was "very interesting." So much so, all of you, in the words of Stevie Wonder, "creeped into my mind." Maybe I should repeat Jackie's words, "get out of my head." I am talking about the comment when I said that there are times when we may

Fourth Week of Job Review
in Online Study: The Book of Job
When I am in a situation that is difficult to deal with or I don't understand. I ask, Lord, what is the lesson you need me to learn." Sometimes I am stuck in this conundrum for days, weeks, months or even years. Then my question becomes. "Lord is my understanding so little that I have not learnt t

The Fourth Week of Job Review
in Online Study: The Book of Job
Reading assignment: Job 38-40, Last night, Barbara pointed us in the right direction as we opened our study reflecting on Job's opening comments (Jb. 29:1). Barbara's comments on Job reflecting on the months past (see Barbara's post on the discussion board) reminded me of the iconic singer Otis Re

What have I learned in the past 3 weeks?
in Online Study: The Book of Job
As Michael has said, when he studies a particular book of the Bible, he begins to see it in his own life. Studying the Book of Job, especially with this wonderful group of people, has really shown me the truth of this. There are so many things that Job says that I can relate to. For example, in Ch

The Second Week of Job Review
in Online Study: The Book of Job
Homework Reading assignment due by October 5 - Job 17, 18, 19. Wow, what a rousing night we had in our second week of studying the Book of Job. We took a deep dive into the book of Job tonight. We zeroed in on the first conversation between Eliphaz and Job. Eliphaz wants Job to be patient while Job

The Call of Job
in Online Study: The Book of Job
The challenges I find in my ministry is that it seems to be someone else’s ministry for me. I have heard: you will be great in this spot, you have a gift, the Holy Spirit led me to you when I was discerning about this. That is how I became a Catechist, ended up doing a two year program at the Pastor

What constitute my best day?
in Online Study: The Book of Job
My best day is when I read a verse in my devotion for the day that reminds me how much I am valued. This sets the tone for my day and how I interact with others.
