When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.”
Today we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord, the day when Jesus manifested himself before the wise men. In the text above, focus on these words as they have an important lesson for us, especially as we start a new year, "We saw his star at its rising..." Here at the beginning of cycle A, where Matthew's Gospel is our focus this year, we must do everything in our power to follow that "star," in our hearts, "Jesus." We must not allow politicians, (Kings and governors), or other people of power to have any controlling influence over us as we follow Jesus, the Bright Morning Star. Please share some ideas on the challenges that the wise men encounter to avoid being swayed by King Herod. What are some practices we must adopt in our lives to continue to follow Jesus, the King of kings?
