“…sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope… “ (1 Pt. 3:15).
The Magnificent 7 envisions a Catholic Church where the spiritual voices of Black Catholic laymen are fully heard, honored, and empowered. We affirm that laymen carry a prophetic wisdom that has too often been muted, and we boldly create space for their prayer, preaching, and teaching to rise with clarity and conviction. Rooted in the call to “always be ready to give an explanation for the hope” within us (1 Pt 3:15), these seven brothers, through storytelling, testimonies, fatherhood experiences, and God's calling, echo Isaiah's cry, “Here I am… send me!” (Is 6:8).
Our vision
Our vision is to amplify these voices so the Church can hear the strength, faith, and resilience they embody — a witness that refuses to turn back and continues pressing “toward the goal, the prize of God’s upward calling, in Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:14). Today, we seek a Church renewed by courage, unity, and the transformative power of lay leadership, Black Catholic men stand tall with steel in their backs.
