The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord

After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon him.  And a voice came from the heavens, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”  (Mt. 3:13-17

Do you remember the phrase, "A Baptism by Fire"? This comment was usually referencing someone who was new on the job. They were learning their new assignments on the go with very little training. In a way, one could say that Jesus was learning his ministry by, "A Baptism by Fire," as  we remembered that Jesus knew what his mission was, "to be with us until the end of the world." And yet, God still spoke from heaven affirming the crowd that Jesus was his beloved Son and how Jesus pleased him. And as we move forward in this New Year, my prayer is that we too will hear God speak to us by first acknowledging that we are his and that he is pleased with us. However, before we hear God's voice we must remember our baptismal promise to be intentional priests, prophets, and kings/queens so that we can live out our call to reach out to all God's children. As you reflect on your baptism, where is God calling you in your ministry? Do you feel a fire calling you to stay or move on?Remeberr, there must be a fire in your ministry calling you!
